The future is closer than we think it to be. The time is not
far when patients will be operated on hi-tech equipment with artificial
intelligence assisting at every step. Experts believe that a great wave of
machine learning and artificial intelligence is coming to healthcare, and
people will have to adopt it one way or another.
University Hospitals of Cleveland CEO Thomas Zenty is of the
view that the once-futuristic technologies may now be closer than many could
realize. He said that it was only a matter of time when one could witness
Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri in hospitals nearby.
As Hospitals and Health IT systems continue to leverage
information technology, healthcare executives are looking forward to advocating
caregivers to improve provider satisfaction. They should also be ready for a
telehealth explosion and look into ways of readily embracing machine learning
and artificial intelligence. With the advancement of technology, there is
always a danger of cyber-attacks – especially when online information data
banks are made - and people also need to be prepared for them.
The wellness of providers is also important as it is the
measure to which they are content with their jobs. Experts think of it as the
key to operating a hospital or health system. This is why quality EMR and electronic health record systems are being developed so providers are satisfied with their jobs. A good
EMR System can readily do most of the redundant tasks for the providers such as
data entry and chart making. This leaves them to have more time with their
patients and diagnose their problems and save lives. Saving lives leads to
provider satisfaction and when this is coupled with good service returns and
insurance reimbursements, it becomes the dream job for any qualified doctor.
This issue was also highlighted by Zenty at the conference
when he said, “Physician satisfaction is at an all-time low. The things we now
have to do with our EHRs. We have to do more work at home than ever before. The
promises of efficiencies and effectiveness and time savings are not being
realized. So we have to advocate for our caregivers. Do everything we can for
those physicians and other caregivers.”
It goes without saying that the collection, aggregation, and
interpretation of data are now critically important. But still, provider
wellness can never be taken for granted. Telemedicine is a unique area of
health IT which has been with us for quite some time. It is now witnessing a
growth spurt and experts say it is for the better. What’s interesting is that
more providers are accepting and using this technology and even more insurers
are readily paying for telehealth services.
Similarly, artificial intelligence and machine learning
along with other technologies are also sparking interest in healthcare. Such
technologies enable computers to handle far greater magnitudes of work than
humans can normally undertake. Experts say that such techs will become
increasingly important in the years ahead and also in the era of
consumerization. All technology is good and necessary, but we must also prepare
for them to be secure. Thus proper means should be utilized in securing them
and making data reliable and safe.
